How To Savour Scotch

Scotch has many complex flavours and aromas and should be tasted slowly and carefully. Whisky expert Andy Bell from Inverarity 121 shows you how to get the most out of your scotch in this step-by-step guide.

Top Tips

  • Select the perfect glass. A Glencairn glass has a wide basin and funnels at the top to focus the aromas.
  • Before you drink your scotch, you need to nose (smell) it. Swirl the glass and hold it up to your nose to sample the flavours.
  • Take a sip and leave it on your tongue, breathing out the heavy alchohol. Swallow it while breathing out and enjoy the aftertaste, which can last for up to 30 seconds.
