An important aspect of the game of darts is scoring and how to score. In the old days, you could see people running in all directions when asked to take the "chalks," as it was referred to. But, I promise you, the best way that I found to learn how to play the game is to take the chalks.

You learn mental arithmetic and you watch the players making shots - that's the way to learn! What we're going to do now is show you an average game of 501 and how to chalk it. Five hundred and one is your start total for the game. The object of the game is to get down to zero and, in order to do that, you need to hit a double at the end of your scoring.

So, let's say, the first throw - 85. From 501, 416, our second visit, we manage to score 100. Third throw is not quite so good.

But our fourth throw, we hit the big one! Now, that leaves 91 and the object of the game is to finish on a double. The way to do that - in this instance - would be to hit a triple 17 and a double 20. And, we manage to do it in 2 darts.

91, game shot, 2 darts. One point I haven't illustrated there and should have - as soon as you leave a finish, it's customary to do that. A player on the oche knows exactly what is left.

And, by putting this diagonal line through, we take all doubt out of the question. 91 remains and it's clear on the board. And that's how to score darts! .
