Step 1:
-
Selecting a ring is quite complex
-
Selecting a ring is quite a complex procedure. If the proportions of the ring on the fingers are out of kimble, it can be unflattering for both the ring and the wearer, because the same ring on one hand can look wonderful and on another hand simply doesn't work.
-
Step 2:
-
The Diamond Trick.
-
There are tricks. One of the old ones is to put the diamonds on the diagonal so it allows more scale of stone to go on a smaller area on the finger. This is clever for a very slim finger. It's also quite clever for a finger that's slightly crooked because it deflects from the symmetry, or lack of symmetry, rather than the absolute classic of all time which is three diamonds in a row.
-
Step 3:
-
three-in-a-row stone arrangement
-
These, in my opinion, tend to look more flattering when the center stone is marginally larger than the side two. I think they just look so much more elegant that the side stones drop a bit in size. Even the finest stones can sometimes look a little Christmas crackery. We regularly get around this by doing a little bit of detail in the shoulder. It can be very subtle, almost to the point where only the wearer is aware of it. It just saves that harsh break between the stone set area and the shoulder.

Step 4:
-
The novel.
-
For the larger budget a novel is quite fun. It’s a little more unusual than our rime stone. Again it allows a little more scale to a stone. It visually extends the finger because it’s leading the eye from the hand to the tip, rather than across.
-
Step 5:
-
Platinum or gold?
-
It’s worth the difference of having it done in platinum rather than white gold. It’s so much tougher; it’s certainly a more expensive material, or metal, to work in, but over the years the maintenance will be considerably less.
-
Step 6:
-
Can I guess the finger size?
-
There is no accurate way to guess someone’s finger size. The obvious way which doesn’t work, but people think will, is if she wears a ring… girls don’t wear a ring on their engagement finger (which is the second finger on the left hand) unless they’re engaged. They just don’t. But they often wear a ring on the same finger of the right hand. Well the news is if you’re right-handed your finger is going to be a least a size up from the same finger on your left hand, and vice versa. So very few people can switch rings to the left and right hands of the same finger. Finger size is varied between the two hands. We are very happy if someone wants to do this to sell them the ring, and they can then bring it back later and of course we measure the finger and alter the ring to the finger.
