The funeral director will have somebody that they always use, somebody local, somebody that they are used to delivering on time to the funeral directors.
You might also want to have or consider having the flowers sent to the house or directly to the church. But all times, you should check with the funeral director the family's wishes. It might be that the family doesn't want any flowers but that's only a request.
If you want to send flowers, it's fine to send them. You might want to look on a long line on your local directory to find a local florist. You can always bring your flowers on the day of the funeral and the funeral director will place them on the hearse in an appropriate area.
What should you send? Only immediate families should send name tributes with letters because these are very personal and very large. If you're sending flowers, send a wreath or funeral flowers in cellophane, something simple. So you probably want to spend between 30 and 50 pounds on your tribute.
Ask the florist to contact the funeral director to find out exactly when and where they would like the tribute sent. Many funeral directors have more than one branch so don't assume where the flowers need to be delivered. The flowers will be placed normally on the hearse and transported into the place of the funeral.
After the funeral, they're normally displayed and everybody can come have a look of the flowers and read the cards. Don't forget to put your card message on your funeral flowers. Close families sometimes take these cards afterwards as a memento but also some just like to leave them with the tributes.
