How To Set A Volleyball
It's the most important position in volleyball: the setter. Setters do what their name implies, setting the ball up for their teammates to attack.

You Will Need
-
Step 1:
-
Position Your Arms
-
Extend your arms above your head tilting them forward slightly. Bend your elbows so your hands are about 6 inches above your head.
-
Step 2:
-
Position Your Hands
-
Spread your fingers apart and round your hands. Use your thumb and pointer finger to form a diamond shape with both hands. Your thumbs should be about an inch apart ... pointing toward your eyes. Keep your fingers strong and nimble. It's the pads of your fingers that will make contact with the ball, not the palms of your hands.
-
Step 3:
-
Position Your Legs and Feet
-
Spread your feet shoulder width apart. Balance is the key to a good set so you may want to place your dominant foot in front. Bend your knees so that when the ball comes your way you can react quickly . The force you set the ball with comes starts in your feet.
-
Step 4:
-
Make Contact
-
When you are ready to set, center yourself under the ball and make contact with the ball while it's still above your forehead. Bend and extend your legs, pushing upwards through the ball to the target. Straighten your arms and legs as you go keeping the ball in your hands briefly. You do not want to get called for a "carry".
-
Step 5:
-
Follow Through
-
After setting the ball your arms and legs should be fully extended and follow through with your entire body. Your dominant foot will naturally come forward as the ball is released.
