How To Set Up An Archery Range

Looking to set up your own archery range? In this step by step guide Michael Peart, professional recurve archer and reserve archer for the Olympics, shares some great tips on where to set up a range, and how to make it as safe as possible.

Top Tips

  • The first thing to consider is safety; have as much space behind the target as possible, and try and find a sheltered spot.
  • You can join an existing archery club; find your nearest one at archery.org, the global governing body.
  • You need a shooting line so no archers stand in front of each other, and they all shoot from the same distance.
  • A wind sock will tell you which direction the wind is blowing in, and how hard it is blowing; this will allow you to compensate for the movement of the arrows due to the wind.
