How To Sew A Button On
In this video, Helen Richards is showing how to sew a button on and what is needed to be able to perfectly sew a button on your own.
I'm going to show you now, how to sew a button on. What do we need? We need the button. We need a double threaded hand sewing needle, already with a knot on the end.
We need a thimble, as I need one. And we need little scissors to cut off the thread. You can see here the mark for a button.
So, please start from the right side, pin it down, come up, pull through. Now, you are going to recognize that the knot is on the right side of the garment and not on the left. I've taken a button.
I go out the first hole in the second one and go exactly in the same hole down where I went before. Now, I'll come out the same hole I did before. Now, I need a little bit of neck and there is a little trick I like to show you.
Take a simple hair pin or match stick, toothpick, whatever you have and put it between. So, this gives me a neck. Come out from the first hole, get down the other one and never switch the holes.
Make sure that you have come every time up. Sorry. Put in left hole up, right hole down.
Pull all the way through. Make sure that you have no loops and you do this about four or five times and then, is the button tight enough? When you think everything is okay, then you take this out and look whether you have here a neck. Now, I go around a couple of times and then under the button hole, I start to secure this, there this thread.
Take this through, wait for the little loop. Go with needle through the loop and pull. Do this again.
I'm not pulling all the way through the little loop and then I go through this loop and pull. This is how you knot and then you cut off the thread and this is how you sew a button on. .
