How To Sew A Zipper
Demonstration of how to put a zipper on easy as 1, 2, 3 using the basting stitch to a regular stitch.
Hi, my name is Aliza from Seam So Easy, www.seamsoeasy.com.
I've been sewing for 15 years and today I'm going to show you some neat moves. Today, I'm going to show you how to use your sewing machine to sew on a zipper. First thing we need to do after you threaded up your machine is move the stitch.
We're doing a straight stitch but to a basting stitch setting. We're going to keep our tension low and our stitch at the widest possible level and then just putting your pressure foot down, just going to sew that lined up. Next thing you want to do is open this up and place your zipper where you would like it to be, in this case, I'm going in the middle.
And I'm just going to pin it on to where I want it to be, you have noticed I only pinned one side because we can't have the pins on when we sew with the foot, with the zipper foot. So next thing, I'm going to do is change my pressure foot to a zipper foot which is this one. I'm also going to unzip, now remember this is the right side of the zipper foot for the right side, and the left for the left.
So I am going to start with the left, put my needle down where I want it to start, I'm going to change this back to a regular stitch you go as far as the machine will go, and then just anchor it back. Do the same thing on the other side, remembering to take the pins out, you also got to remember to keep the zipper head facing upward. Then tidy it up using your thread cutter and because this was a basting stitch that we did in the middle, all we have to do is slit that thread to reveal the zipper underneath.
You realize why you need to keep the zipper head facing upwards while you sew it because otherwise you won't be able to access it, then tidy it up and there you have your zipper. .
