How To Sew Straight

This film shows how easy-breezy it can be to sew a straight line following a seam allowance using a sewing machine.

I'm now going to show you how to sew straight and stick to a seam allowance. On your machine, you will have some grooves here on the metal plate with numbers and the numbers are usually referring to centimetres and inches, so depending on what you're working with. I want to sew with the centimetre allowance so I'm going to put my raw edge of my fabric on the number 10 and drop down and I'm not going to worry about reversing, I'm just going to sew straight so you can see exactly how to sew straight.

And away we go. So when I'm sewing, I'm not looking at the needle. I'm looking here.

This is where I need to make sure it stays in line, keeping it on the number 10 as I go. As long as my edge is straight, I'm going to stay on that number 10; I will sew in a straight line.
