How To Shoot The Duck On Ice
One of the awesome ice skating moves to watch is the shoot the duck. This is quite advanced but you will be given an overview in this video.
Okay, I'm now going to show you how to do a move called shoot the duck on the ice. This is something that's, again, a bit of fun, quite advanced for kids to teach. It's all about having balance and your weight in the right place and a little bit of guts as well to attempt.
The technique to this, first of all, you want to be able to go skating in loose speed, feet parallel, arms out in front, crouch down as low as you can possibly go, almost touching your bottom into your heels or your skates. So, a good exercise to practice off the ice is this squatting as low as you possibly can, keeping your chest onto your knees with arms out in front. When you end up doing the shoot the duck, you're going to maintain that position first.
Go down with it on two feet. Whichever leg is obviously up to you, you then now have one leg up directly in front of you, staying down in that position. Okay, I'll demonstrate the move for you.
Okay, so you've done the shoot the duck forward, now you're going to be confident enough hopefully to try backwards. Usually, you want to build up doing backward crossovers or backward crosscuts just to build up a little bit of speed. Go around in clockwise direction.
Again, you're going to go down, squat down on two feet as you did on forwards. Keep all of your weight of your right leg, lifting the left leg up slightly to the side, not necessarily in front, again keeping your arms out in front of you. I'm going to demonstrate that for you now.
And that's how to shoot the duck by forwards and backwards. Please remember when trying it, make sure you go down as low as you can on two feet, arms in front, keeping your weight over the skates, and all the best of luck.
