Hi! I'm Stuart Thomas, I'm here at Roller City and I'm going to teach you how to roller skate. I'm going to teach you how to skate faster, Going forwards when you want to pick up speed fast the best thing to do is to start on your stopper. That is going to give you your first position if you want you can start with one foot, the time you actually push forward you've lost quite a lot of momentum in it.

If you're on your stopper, it's like a sprinter racing. If you're on your stoppers and you can pretty much run as fast as you can on your stoppers until your feet naturally take over while using the skates like this. Once you've got your speed up your wheels will naturally take over because you will be running out of momentum where you can't run your stoppers any further.

One you've got going you want to keep your momentum up. The harder and lower you dig in to like a speed skater would, keeping a lower gravity, the faster you will get. But you will see some ice skaters when they're skating fast; they get very low to the floor creating a lot more horizontal movement going forwards.

It's ideal to keep your knees bent, so once you've got going you want to get low. So once you get going you can build up momentum and speed bye a lot carving in to the floor a lot faster and a lot quicker, the more effort that you put into it the faster that you're going to propel yourself forward. Like so, when going around corners you might want to carve into the corner as well which will pick up speed going around corners, so you can create a nice speed as your going around in a circle, like so.

Keeping you movement and going as you move around. The same applies when you are going backwards. The more effort, the more you dig deep into your skates.

The more you find you'll go faster, remember when you go faster you have to move your feet a lot quicker. Making sure that you're looking behind you because the faster you go the more likely you're going to bump in to someone and that's how to skate fast.
