How To Skate The Canasta Tango
Figure skating is a beautiful and graceful sport. Watch as these two skaters skate the Canasta Tango with their coach explaining how it's done.
I'm going to talk you through the Canasta Tango. This is a pattern dance used in ice dancing. This is used for a test system and for competitive skating.
The Canasta Tango is a forward dance. So, everything is performed forwards. The skater can either perform this solo or with a partner.
If they are performing this with a partner, they will be in a hold that is called a reversed hold. So, it only has a limited amount of steps which are completed just for a half of circuit for the rink. And then, you will restart the dance again.
So, there will be 2 sequences within 1 circuit of the dance. Because it is a pattern dance, the most important thing about dance is the timing. So, the skater will have to perform this to some music and they will have to keep in time to the music.
It's vitally important that they start the phasing of the music on the correct bar for the first step of the dance. There are various steps in this Canasta Tango which include progressive runs, swings, slide sashays, and cross rolls. And now, our skaters will perform the Canasta Tango.
And that's how to skate the Canasta Tango. .
