How To Spiral Tie Dye
Although originally a product of the 60's, tie dye is always a cool fashion statement! In this VideoJug presentation, learn how to create your own tie dye clothing with a spiral effect.
Hi. I'm Turguy Mustafa. I've been doing garment dyeing for the last 26 years for Prestige Fashion Dyers, and today, I will be giving you some tips about tie dye and garment dyeing.
So, this is the way to achieve a spiral design. Now, the simple thing is, obviously, you hold the garment from the middle, let it hang down, and put an elastic band all the way right to the bottom as you can, and these elastic bands have to be tight. And again, about an inch further, or maybe slightly more, it all depends how big your garment's going to be and so on until you come right to the top of the garment.
Then obviously, each time you put an elastic band, if you start it about an inch and a half further from the first, you have to go inch from the second, three quarters from the third, and slightly going down right up to the top. And you can actually do this like this, if you want the bottom to go, to take color as well, you can leave it as it is or you can block that with what we call a dip dye marlin bag, and that way, this garment doesn't take the dye and it stays the original color. Now, this is the way to do the first spiral design.
If you want any more colors added to this, obviously what you need to do is, instead put it in 5 or 6 elastic bands, you need to put it in double or triple the elastic bands on there. And what you'll actually do is, once it's done, you actually take some of the elastic bands off, and that way, it will give you two different colors when you tie it up again. And this is actually how to create a spiral, one way or two-way effect. .
