Step 1 : New Growth

The best time to stake is after the first flush of growth. The stem should be sturdy and flower buds should not be formed yet.

Step 2: Stake It

Push a bamboo stake securely into the ground – until you feel that it can stand on its own.

Step 3: Tie It

Measure 6 inches from the top of the stake and make your tie. Loosely wrap the string around the plant stem, twist the string, so that you form a figure eight and then tie the string around the stake.

Step 4: Cut The Stake

Measure the stake about 6 inches lower than the flower head or about ¾ of the overall height of the plant. Then cut with your garden shears. You can use leaves to help hide your ties.
