How To Start A Garden

This film will show you the proper way to create a garden. This helpful tutorial ranges from picking a plot, killing weeds, and finally planting

Step 1:

You Will Need

Step 2:

Pick Your Plot

You'll need to find a small patch of relatively flat ground that receives at least six hours of sunlight per day and is in close reach to your water supply.

Step 3:

Kill The Weeds

In order to keep your plants healthy, you must get rid of unwanted growth in the planting area . Kill weeds by cutting out their roots with a garden hoe or pulling them out by hand. A weed killer is not recommended here as the remnants of the chemicals may be harmful to the things you plant.

Step 4:

Dig It

Prep the soil by using a shovel to dig into the ground and turning it over. You could also use a garden tiller.
Add some compost, if you wish, to add nutrients to your soil.

Step 5:

Planting

Dig holes according to the directions for your specific plants and place them into the prepared soil, covering the root ball lightly with dirt.
Be sure to do research to understand the proper spacing of each plant..

Step 6:

Add Water

Once your plants are in, water them down to help the soil settle in place over the roots.
Use a gentle spray for smaller, more fragile plants. You don't want to knock them over!
