How To Start Your PC In Safe Mode

Safe Mode is a stripped down version of your operating system. It can allow you to get into your computer and troubleshoot or save documents when your normal operating system has a problem and won't boot up.

Step 1: You will need

  • A PC with Windows XP or Vista

Step 2: Power

Shut your computer off completely. Wait a few seconds and Turn the Power back on.

Step 3: Find the Key

When you see the first screen with all of your hardware and memory information. Press and hold the F8 Key

Step 4: Choose

Several boot options will appear. You can try booting safe mode with the network to use internet services, but if that doesn't work, boot up in regular safe mode.


Your PC will now start in safe mode. Be advised some of your programs may not work in this operating environment, but at least you can get at your files.
