Thomas Cawte from the Kite Surf Center teaches us how to steer a kite bar.
Hello! I'm Thomas from the Kite Surf Center. Today, I'm just gonna show you a couple of tips on how to fly a kite and how to get into these brilliant sport of kite flying. And now, I'm gonna show you how to steer a kite bar.
So when you're steering a kite bar, when steering a kite bar, what you want to try and do is to make one line tighter than the other. So if I want the kite to go left, I'll try to make the left line tight and the right line loose. Or if I want to go right, try to make the right line tight, and the left line loose.
So, let's keep up our horizontal in front of us like and then pulling it in and pushing out. So, when I'm pulling right, I'm pushing out with my left hand. So it's in and out like this and the kite's gonna feel that.
If you're really aggressive with the bar, big movements like this, the kite is going to move fast. If I'm really gentle with the bar and just kind of pressure on the other side, you can make the kite move really slowly and really nice to control. So what you want to try and not to do when controlling your kite with the bar is to try not to steer it as if it's a steering wheel ‘cause the lines stay the same, and the kite's not gonna feel a thing up at the kite's end.
So, bar in front of you, not too far out, not too close, ‘cause that's gonna restrict your movements. Nice and comfortable in front of you, and in and out like this and gradually get used to that control. Start of really nice and gentle, little movements and then as you get confident, you can start to do some bigger movements and start to feel a bit more power from the kite and start to have a bit of fun.
And that's how you steer a kite bar.
