How To Stop A Nosebleed

Stop a Nosebleed. Don't suffer unnecessarily with this common complaint. Our expert advice shows the correct way to stop the discomfort of a nose bleed.

You Will Need

  • 1 Hanky
  • 1 Clock

Step 1:

Pinch your nose firmly

Sit down and pinch your nose firmly just below the bridge with your thumb and index finger.

Step 2:

Lean your head forward

Lean your head forward and breathe through your mouth, maintaining the pressure for ten minutes.

Step 3:

Continue to apply pressure

If the bleeding has not stopped, apply pressure for another 10 minutes.

WARNING

Whatever you do don't tip your head back since this will result in you swallowing blood. Or stick a key on the back of your neck… that's just an old wives' tale!

Seek medical advice

Bleeding should stop in 30 mins, but avoid bending down or blowing your nose for the next 12h. If bleeding does not stop, seek medical advice

I am sorry but the best way to stop a nose bleed is to have a large object under your top lip. When I say large object I mean larger than your teeth. If you get a sudden nose bleed take a clean index finger and put it under yur top lip parallel to your teeth. It helps to push up a bit. I read it on the internet and when I got a nosebleed I tried it and it worked wonders.

i get nose bleeds just around everyday in summer and winter. yeah i know its really bad. but the treatment for it is horrible. in winter its really dry and the artificial heat doesnt help. summer.. its hot xD leaning back makes the blood flow down your throat which can cause it to flow into your lungs or stomach.. which can make you throw up or die? scary. haha. it also tastes digusting. if you hold your nose straight for around 5-10 minutes then it SHOULD create a blod clot. it feels REALLY yuck like you have lots of.. snot. but DONT BLOW because it'll probably start again. and worse. This isnt a lie. seriously you can look it up. if you're nose is bleeding really badly it can start to come out your eye(s). dont panic. its happened to me and it just stoped after a minute or so. but if it goes for 5 minutes see a doctor. or go to hospital. its REALLY scary. my parents freaked. just stay calm. BY THE WAY pinch hard. it hurts but it works. and yeah i know sometimes sticking tissue up ur nose is easier to handle. but it doesnt help(unless its a minor nose bleed). the blood clot will attatch to the tissue and come out with the tissue. try not to move around too much and keep you're head above your heart.

Doh!!! Obviously if you couldnt breathe through your mouth, it would be a given that you would seek medical advice quickly. The information on the video is not uninformative at all, but realistic and useful for those that can use their common sense.

you can tell the blood on that tissue wasnt hers because it was too dry, and if you have a disorder where you can only breathe through your nose and cant breathe through your mouth, its going to kill you, so this is basically uninformative

This is accurate treatment for a nosebleed. A nosebleed will normally stop within a very short space of time, however some do go on longer. 30 minutes is the standard advice. If you ignore the advice and go to the hospital, the nurse will simply get you to sit in the waiting room for the same time anyhow!!!

this isn't very acurate at all to me.i think think if you just put a tissue under your nose and wait it will stop.

30 minutes, are you kidding? I'd be quite worried if it took 10 minutes, let alone 30, to stop a nosebleed. When I get one, they rarely last more than 2-3 minutes.

Im sure that works, but its easier just to stick a good wadge of tissue up there for 5-10 minutes while you get on with things. Never fails.
