If you want to stop depression chances are you can't. Not just like that, in any case. But there's a lot that you can do to start to create a fertile environment for that depressive energy to start to move on its way.

Hi. I'm Lee, Great Life coach. Over the past ten years I've worked with hundreds of people all over the world helping them find the passion, purpose and peace in their lives.

The kinds of things that you can start doing are starting to take small steps that start to move you back up the spiral that you found yourself in. These small steps are usually very simple: starting to look after your body, starting to look after the tempo that you're living in on a daily basis. What I mean by this is starting to eat great food, even if you choose one particular meal, having a fruit salad for breakfast rather than that great big greasy breakfast.

Whatever. But just starting to nourish your body with great food. Great exercise.

Wherever you can, go for a run, go for a swim, just go and get to the gym, do something to get your physiology active and enlivened again. Look after sleep. Don't sleep too much.

Don't find yourself hiding under the duvet, get out, get some fresh air. And of course, have some fun. Even if you feel detached from it, put yourself through the process.

Wherever possible, bring some sort of a spiritual practice into your life: tai-chi, yoga, pilates, swimming, mountain biking, running, anything like this, where you're just engaging with something more than your miserable self can be very useful to helping you start to move back up the spiral. One key aspect of depression is to move into a place of alignment with your whole life situation, whatever is going on for you. Very often, people that find themselves depressed, if they look around, it's very likely that they are not in complete acceptance of their set of circumstances.

Perhaps they've just lost their job, find themselves depressed, but really aren't accepting what's happened. The moment you move to a place of acceptance, you start to get your power back, you start to tell your physiology that you're ready for having a new way of being in the world and new things can start to happen for you. Sometimes people find themselves in a depressive state when they're living out of alignment with themselves.

So do whatever you can to really listen deep into your heart, to understand what is your perfect trajectory, what is your perfect way forward in life. Sometimes, as you attune to that alignment, it requires great courage to make big changes in your life. Maybe you need to change your relationship, maybe you need to quit that job and get a new job.

These kind of things can sometimes lead to depression if you ignore them, hoping they're going to go away.

Of course, for some people, a depressive condition is a very serious medical condition and you should always seek the advice of a GP or medical doctor to find out if they can help you as well. But these kinds of little changes will also compliment anything that they're asking you to do.
