Hi! I'm Stuart Thomas, I'm here at Roller City and I'm going to teach you how to roller skate. Now I'm going to show you how to stop on blades. The best way to practice the T-stop on blades is to start in a T-position in the first place.
Basically you push off , drag your foot until you stop. Slowly pushing down on this foot and keeping all your weight on the front foot. I'll show you again.
So start in a T-position, push off and keep your weight on your front foot, drag your foot and then slowly push all four wheels down until you stop. Basically, keep it nice and straight; keep all your weight on your front foot, push off, drag your foot until you stop. Slowly pushing down, remember to keep your weight on the front and you'll find yourself stopping in no time.
The next stop I'm going to show you is the hockey stop. With a hockey stop you need to get good momentum, plant one foot and as you plant one foot you need to turn into it, and as you turn into it you're going to flick your heel out, digging your heel into the floor, keeping your weight backwards not forwards. If you keep your weight forward you will fall over.
I'll show you, so skate forwards, plant a foot and dig in deep. I'll show you again, skate forwards, plant a foot and dig in. as you dig in you will naturally turn, turn too much and you're not stopping you're just turning.
So pick a point, plant your foot and stop. The harder and the quicker you do that the quicker you are going to stop. So you've got the T-stop and you've got the hockey stop.
Also, if you're skating backwards you can do a backwards hockey stop. Same as before, skating backwards, plant one foot and kick out the second foot. This time you are flicking the toes out more.
So you're skating backwards, plant your foot, and you should stop. It's the same again, you've got your T-stop, your hockey stop and then your backwards hockey stop. And that's how to stop on blades.
