Step 1: You will need

Step 2: Prepare the hair

Apply some heat protective product to the hair first to protect it when straightening. Put a small amount on your hands and rub them together. Then work the product through the hair from the roots to the tips, making sure it is evenly applied.

Step 3: Clip into sections

Separate the hair into sections using a tail comb. Leave some loose at the bottom and pin the rest up with a large clip.

Step 4: Heat the straighteners

Your straighteners will need some time to heat up- always follow the manufacturer's instructions. Place them on a non-flammable surface while they are heating and do not leave them unattended.

Step 5: Straighten

Close the straighteners over the loose section of hair and, starting from the root, drag them down the hair to the tip. Immediately run the comb through the straightened section.

Step 6: Repeat

Repeat the previous step, loosening another section of hair each time, straightening and combing through as before. Continue straightening the rest of the hair

Step 7: Style

Part the hair using the tail end of the comb and style into a sleek look.
To prevent frizzing and hold the style in place, spray lightly with hair spray.

thanks for the tips, are really useful, I use a great flat iron that works amazing, it's the Karmin G3 Salon Pro and it causes less damage to the hair , plus it keeps my hair soft, shiny and super straight. :D

i am white, but i have to say: black girls look more beautiful with curly hair. too straight is already so boring, and black girls are given curls and they want to straighten it. i think what she should have done was just hydrating and loosing her curls, but getting an iron curler and doing her hair. it would look a LOT sexier. pin-straight hair is not sexy. i have naturally straight hair, and i have to use my flat iron to curve the ends just to give grace to my hair.

I strongly agree black girls do not need a perm to get straight hair....my hair is straight and naturally shiny...i hate that sterotype..inot every black person is african..i am african american, bahamian, thomasinian, and jamaican and i have gorgeous long, straight hair and this video sucks

Well... i do not agree with this video and a lot of the comments posted. I am african american a.k.a black. My mother is a licensed cosmetologist a.k.a hairdresser. The lady doing the girl's hair in this video is an ameteur and is doing a lot of things wrong that would surely not be tolerated if she were a true cosmetolegist. Now as for the comments. The title of this video clearly says how to straighten afro hair. true african american hair naturally looks dry and brittle even though it is not. The only way for african american hair to not look like this is if it gets relaxed or hot combed. without a perm or relaxer African american hair needs extreme heat in order to be controlled i'm talking like 400 degrees. High on the standard flat iron. The only way this girls hair would burn from the oil is if it was saturated in it. Clearly the narrator said to a little, rub ur hands together and then put it on. OMG listen. To straighten natural non chemical treated african american hair you would have to use hot comb. which is basically a metal comb you can put on kitchen stove or professional hair stove. Chemically treated african american hair it is much easier. After that process of relaxing the hair you can either use a hood dryer or blow dryer in order to dry the hair. then you should put some type of moisturizer on the hair this can be OIL just in MODERATION. The next step is easy just like you flat iron any other nationalities hair flat iron the african american hair although it may take more time.

This hair aint even afro hair as its clearly been chemically altered... Her hair looks soooo dry n damaged in need of some olive oil, replenishing lotion, a deep conditioner and a leave in condtioner...to try restore some moisture! When using the straightners she went over the same spot sevral time thats a NO NO espec when using an oil based product as a heat protecter...the hair is just going to burn, casusing it dry out further, n break off which is probaly why she has such short hair. The hair is not even very straight after all that heat! lol She could have got better results using some wrappin lotion and wrapping hair with a silk scarf over night! If u do not want dry, brittle, dead ended, damaged hair then i suggest u do not do anything u see in this video! People always think Black hair cant grow n its doing this sort of thing that results in short hair...Im black n i have natural hair which reaches just above my elbow...all I do is wash my at least once a wk, deep condition it fornightly, apply lotion to the ends daily, apply leave in conditioner once a week and only use heat on it once a week. Only comb i whilst damp or wet with a large tooth comb. wrap it at night with a silk scaf n finaly TRIM it every 6-8 week...belive me do this n watch ur hair grow

whitemist falls: No!, just because it is a professional line doesn't mean anything. The fact is that is an oil, that is NOT a heat protectant. The only thing oil does is lubricate the hair shaft, i.e: meant to be used as a hot oil treatment or put on hair as a finishing aid. What happens when you put oil in a skillet, it burns and fries things, it will do the same to hair. That is why she has no edges and her hair looks dry. Keracare has a creme hairdress, she should have used that.
