How To Strengthen Core Muscles

If you want to strengthen your core muscles, add the side plank, superman plank, and front plank to your workout. A fitness expert shows you how to do these exercises.

In this video, I'm going to show you how to strengthen your core muscles. Now, the best move you can do when you don't have any equipment is called the front plank. It looks like this.

Forearms go down on the floor like so, feet out and touching, back is nice and flat. Suck the belly button in as tight as you can. You just hold and keep breathing and what you want to avoid doing is arching the lower back like so.

So, rotate the pelvis so the back is nice and flat. Now, a more advanced version of the front plank is called the superman plank. You take your feet nice and wide.

Stretch out the arm in front. Keep it nice and straight as you arch it around the body and back down. And then, do the same on the other side.

The aim of this is to avoid rotating the body like so when you're doing it. You want to keep the back nice and flat, nice and still. You then go on to a side plank, which works the oblique muscles of the sides of the stomach here.

Pull them down, legs nice and straight. Hand up and keep the hips nice and high. Head straight and hold.

And again, there are variations on this. You can add a leg raise to make it even harder or you can add a twist, again, keeping the back nice and straight still. Just twist the arm through and back up.

So, to summarize there, we've done a front plank, we've done a Superman plank and we've done a side plank. And that is how to strengthen your core muscles. .
