You've bought a pair of new shoes. How to walk with them to show yourself off to best advantage? Jo King of the London Academy of Burlesque will show you how to strut your stuff!

How to strut your stuff in burlesque shoes. The shoes you that choose, again, will always depend on how tall you are, to begin with. Very tall women tend to go for more kitten heels, whereas if you're little like me, I'm only 5 foot, I tend to go for relatively high heels.

It does help if you have heels, because what happens is it tilts your pelvis forward slightly and it will make you walk slightly differently. You have to practice. You have to find shoes that actually are comfortable to wear.

If you're wearing shoes with stockings, they do have a tendency to slip a little bit, so be aware of that, you may have to walk slower than normal. If you are on stage in your burlesque shoes, it's really important that they're comfortable and they don't slip, because you don't want any accidents on the stage. If you're going out for the night, then odds are you can sit down, kick them off and just enjoy yourself.

My shoes, I've gone for patent shoes today, they have a little platform, and that gives me a little extra bit of height. If you're going to walk, the best way to do a burlesque walk is actually to have freedom of movement. So, just take a few deep breaths, and let your body be a little bit loose.

A lot of people say you have to walk like a tightrope. I actually think that's quite confusing for people, because if that's not the natural way you walk, it can make you lose your balance. The best thing to do is to walk your own walk a little bit, and just work out what that is, and as you walk, remember to really concentrate on your bottom moving.

It's natural, actually, for our bottoms to sashay. We tend, in our life, to conform to the way most people walk and stop that happening. But actually, as you put one leg forward, the other hip should automatically go up a little bit.

So therefore when you walk, you can allow those hips to move from side to side. So accentuate that. Also, it's a really good idea to use your arms a little bit.

If you were on stage, this is what I would suggest that you do. I would suggest that as you walk, you use your arms in a very graceful manner, because it's all part of it. Also, you may notice that when I walk, as I put for example my right foot forward, my left shoulder comes forward a little bit.

Gives it a little swivel in the body and it makes the walk with better posture. So, it's about allowing the whole body to come into the walk. It's not a rush; we're burlesque walking, ladies.

It's about the tease. So, don't be too eager to get where you're going. Make them wait for you.

That's how to strut in your burlesque shoes. .
