How To Style Naturally Curly Hair

Hair stylist Nic Davis shows you how to style naturally curly hair using conditioner to bring out it's natural wave. Hair stylist Nic Davis shows you how to style naturally curly hair using conditioner to bring out it's natural wave.

Step 1: Applying Conditioner

Before you start, make sure the hair is washed and conditioned, and any excess water is blotted out with a towel.
Next, take an organic conditioner and emulsify it by rubbing it vigorously between your palms until it feels dry to the touch.
Apply it to the mid-lengths and ends of the hair, and continue adding up to 5 lots of conditioner.

Step 2: Diffusing the Hair

Attach a diffuser to your hairdryer. Flip your hair over to one side to allow air to get to it, and use the diffuser at a slow speed on a high heat upwards through the hair. Leave it there for a few seconds and move onto the next section. Never focus on one area for too long.
Flip the hair over to the other side and repeat the process until it feels cold to the touch.

Step 3: Re-applying Conditioner

When the hair is almost dry, take more conditioner and once again emulsify it to a dry paste. Allow any frizzy hairs to take conditioner from your hands to get rid of frizzy ends, and work the rest of the conditioner through the hair. Finish by diffusing the hair for a few more minutes, at a slow speed on a slow heat.

okay that's A LOT of conditioner. No matter how much you rub that between your hands it's going to end up looking greasy in your hair. This guy's never had to live with curly hair. Her hair looks okay at first but I'm betting that as she goes throughout her day she starts looking wilted and greasy. gross.

Wow... that was terrible. For one, her hair isn't curly...wavy maybe, who knows after all that conditioner...and anyone who actually has curly hair knows you don't put that much conditioner in it because it gets GREASY. Secondly, the styling looks like it was straight out of the 80's. I'm sorry, no one wants to look like a back page sports illustrated swim suit girl from '82 rocking out faux-waves. His scrunching of the hair with so much product in it is what created those waves. He shouldn't be allowed near anyone with curly hair. >.>

this is still too 'done' I have naturally very curly hair. I do apply moisturiser after I have washed my hair and it's patted dry but still damp (when I'm out of the shower). The only reason I use conditioner is that it doesn't make my hair greasy, like other products can do. But I don't rub it between my hands and I don't apply it twice, or use an emulsifier.

I would not consider that curly hair at all. Maybe slightly wavy hair, but curly???? I think not. Get a model with real curly hair, re-shoot the video, show me what that looks like and maybe I'll give it a thumbs up .

You don't have to put ALL THAT conditioner!. That dudes' nuts! It looked the same way it did before putting any of that goop, I just towel dry my hair and let it loose. It looks the same! Without all the effort and maybe put a few drops of serum wherever it's frizzy....DONE!
