How To Swaddle A Baby
We all want what is best for our babies and for them to feel as comfortable and secure as possible. Swaddling is a technique of wrapping a baby in a blanket that can make your little one feel as snug as a bug in a rug!
Hi. I am Laura Campbell from Babyladies and I am going to be giving you some tips on how to look after your newborn and how to achieve the birth that you want. So, I'm going to talk about swaddling a baby, and a lot of people swaddle their baby because it makes them feel safe and secure, and if your baby has been in the womb, well, your baby has been in the womb for however long, it is used to a really safe environment and not being able to flail it's legs and arms around, so it makes them feel a bit more secure.
So there are quite a few uses for swaddling. So, I'm going to use a muslin to show you how to do it and I am just going to lay that out in a diamond shape and I'm just going to fold the top of the diamond down like that. Excuse me, bunny.
I'm going to place baby's head, at the top of the diamond and I'm going to take the corner of the muslin and I'm going to just put it on the baby's arm and tuck it under her bottom and I'm going to take the next one and take it over and place it under her bottom and then just cover her feet up as well. As you can see, baby is quite safe and secure. Now, the reason why I'm using a muslin for this demonstration is because it's a fantastic way if your baby has got arms that go all over the place when you are breastfeeding.
It's a really good way to make her arms in nice and tight, also to make her feel safe and secure when she is feeding. Another way to swaddle your baby, you are putting your baby down at night and you are using a blanket, is to have her arms up. I'm using a doll here so she is not as pliable as a real baby.
So put her arms up, again with your diamond shape you are going to have the top down. You are going to take this part of the muslin, pop it under her bottom and then pull this, pop it under her bottom and then just tuck all of that under. Make sure there is no bunching so that baby is nice and comfortable.
And then when you put her arms down, you'll see there is no chance of the blanket riding up over her mouth and nose. So you can be rest assured that she is going to sleep nice and snuggly. I also really recommend grow bags for babies.
For the very reason that, grow bags have poppers at the top and they have a zip all the way around and there is no chance of them being able to rise up over the baby's face. It's a nice, safe environment that your baby can sleep in all the way from newborn up until they are a year old, or however long you want them in there for. .
