How To Tackle In Football
Football is a one sided game with no tackles, and football coach Matt Dilworth and his players demonstrate how to make two tackles to take the ball away from opponents.
Hi, my name's Matt Dilworth. I'm a Saturday Intermediate League goalkeeper and I also run and manage my own Sunday league side. And today, I'm going to take you through some football basics to help get you started.
Okay, this is how to do a tackle in football. Firstly, we're going to focus on probably the most common type of tackle, and that's the block tackle. In this instance, the attack guy is going to run towards the defender with the ball at his feet and the defender is going to come through and with plenty of force and power, he's making contact with the football to block, to stop the attacker's progress and hopefully come away cleanly with the ball and I believe to play off of a teammate to start an attack.
Another common type of tackle in football is the sliding tackle. It takes a lot of time in and has to be pretty perfect to save giving away a free kick. In this instance, the attacker is going to be running along with the ball at his feet, and the defender is going to come along the side of him and wrap around and claim the ball.
It's important that the defender takes the ball first here because if he makes contact with the player first, that's going to be a free kick, so timing is everything. .
