How To Tape A Hockey Stick
Tips on how and why taping a hockey stick can be important, giving you an edge when playing!
Hi! My name's Robin, and I'm going to be talking to you today about the different kinds of grip that you can get on a hockey stick, and why there's tape on some hockey sticks. So when you buy a hockey stick, it will look like this. Just has the grip down one end, down the handle, and then there will be nothing down the end.
Should be nice and clean. But as with any piece of sporting equipment, you get wear and tear on it. So as you can see on the bottom of this stick, it's starting to chip, and that just comes through when you're just doing both hitting and sweeping across the floor, it starts to damage.
So some players will put a slight layer of tape across the bottom to protect it, and stop any more holes forming. And the other reason for taping the bottom of a stick is like this for example. Taping around the bottom stops the ball a lot easier, because it reduces the impact of the ball.
So you can buy tape or a sticker that will go along the bottom, and just provide a little bit of cushioning when you're trapping the ball. Just like when you are playing tennis, the handle of a hockey stick has a removable grip. So you can go to the shop and buy different kinds of grip.
The one that's on here is the one the stick came with, but you can buy some that have more cushion. And they come in a roll, so they are really easy to attach, from one end you just wrap it the whole way round and tape it at the end. They do tend to get a bit more wear and tear because they get wet, especially in winter when there's lots of rain.
So about once a season, once every two seasons, they tend to get re-taped, to make it easier on your hands when you're playing. So that's just a little bit of advice on how to tape and grip the ends of your hockey stick. .
