How To Throw A Hook

We've teamed up with England qualified boxing coach, Michael Gregory to show you how to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. In this film Michael shows you how to throw the perfect hook.

To throw a great hook, start off by ensuring you have a good stance and are nicely balanced. The hook is a fairly relaxed shot.

Make sure you have a tight guard, and then give a little rotation through the leg and body, transferring the weight. As you do this, bring the punch round with a bent arm. Your palm must be facing down, and you are aiming to score with the knuckle part of the glove. Make sure the elbow is parallel to the shoulder and try to hit the side of the head.

With a boxer running into you, you can catch him completely off guard with this punch, perhaps landing it on his chin. A bad hook is one with an over exaggerated rotation, causing you to become off balance and land with the wrong part of the glove.
