How To Throw A Knuckleball In Baseball. Nobody knows what's going to happen when a knuckler is thrown…except for the ball. It's a mystery pitch that can go down, up, right, or left. Follow these steps to learn how to master the knuckler in baseball pitching.

Step 1: Get A Grip

The trick to throwing the knuckleball is to push it towards home plate with as little rotation as possible. The knuckleball is thrown by digging your middle, index and ring fingers into just below the seams on the ball.

Step 2: Don't Rotate The Ball

Throwing the knuckler is different than throwing almost any other pitch. You don't throw the knuckler as much as you push it towards home plate. By pushing it without rotation you give the ball that crazy and unpredictable flight.

Step 3: Push On Release

As you push the ball towards home plate you should be pushing it with your fingertips out and with your wrist stiff.

Step 4: Follow

As you release the ball your front leg should stiffen so that your leg and upper body are now at a 90 degree angle. Your back leg should swing around next to your stride leg putting you in a fielding position.
