How To Throw A Shot Put
Shot put is one of the field events in athletics, and is one of the sports featured in the first modern Summer Olympic Games. In this Step by step guide Julia Hubbard, athlete and personal trainer, shows you how to do a basic shot put throw.
- In the shot put starting position your feet should be out wide with your back leg bent down, and your upper body should be facing towards the back of the net. The shot is held with the fingers close to the neck.
- From the starting position you twist around quickly, leading with the elbow, and push the shot up at a 45 degree angle.
- Remember to keep your elbow high, lead with the hips, and extend your arm out.
- There are other techniques for throwing the shot but they are more advanced, so you should learn this method first before moving on to them.
