Step 1: You will need

Step 2: Make the tying knot

Lay one lace over the top of the shoe and cross the other over it. Tuck the top lace under, and around the bottom one and pull both laces firmly at the ends to secure the tying knot.

Step 3: Make the loop

Next, with your writing hand, make a loop with the opposite lace.

Step 4: Wrap and tuck

Wrap the other lace all the way around the top side of the loop and tuck it back through itself. You should end with 1 large loop and the beginning of a second.

Step 5: Make the bow

To finish, grab both loops at the tops and pull them away from each other to tie and secure the bow.

Step 1: Make the tying knot

Take one lace and make a loop.

Step 3: Make the other loop

Take the other lace and make another loop.

Step 4: Cross the loops

Cross one loop over the other.

Step 5: Make the bow

Tuck one loop under the other, pull it through the gap and tighten it into a bow.

    WARNING! The kids' variation is being tied incorrectly and forms a "Granny Knot", which comes undone. The loops should be crossed the opposite way to the starting knot for this to form a secure knot. Many people make this mistake! See the Two Loop Knot on Ian's Shoelace Site for the correct method.
