This video discusses in detail the ways to treat foot ulcers. Foot ulcers must be taken seriously because if not it can lead to more serious consequences. So take care of your feet and watch this video.

Hello I'm Charles Goldman, a qualified Chiropodist/Podiatrist. I run “The Foot Pad” chiropody and physical therapy clinic in (Sounds like: Hoven), Central London. Today I'm gonna talk to you about various foot problems and their treatment.

In this film were gonna talk about foot ulcers. The first thing you need to understand is that these are really not treatable at home. You can maintain the treatment but you cannot start the treatment yourself.

The appearance of foot ulcers normally indicate a neurological problem and it is a disruption to the normal healing process. They are triggered by a foreign body for example, a splinter or something like that, and the normal healing process doesn't take place. You get excessive white blood cells there; break down of the skin and you get an ulcer formed which is basically destruction of the skin right down to the layers below.

The first treatment is to seek professional help, this is very important. This is very common with people who have neurological disorders, peripheral neurological problems, vascular problems, diabetics, this sort of thing. The first thing you have to do is to remove the infection.

Antibiotics, antiseptics, sterile dressings are very important, the healing process, obviously rest, keeping the wound clean. It's very important for people, such as diabetics to have their feet checked at least twice a year, because they often cannot feel the soles of their feet because of neurological disruption and you have to check that they don't have an infection which can develop into an ulcer. Professional help can include treatments to improve the healing process using laser and other such modalities.

It's very advisable to professional help as soon as you feel something is wrong with your foot or if you're one of the people prone to this sort of thing such as diabetics. And this is the way we would treat foot ulcers.
