The most important thing is actually to prevent acne scarring. Acne scars are very, very difficult to get rid of. They need actually quite a long time to be treated so have to have a lot of patience.

The most important thing to prevent, actually, acne scars to occur is to stop squeezing your spots, don't use your hands, your hands have bacteria on them, you may infect them, then the spots can actually grow larger and bigger and so stopping to squeeze your spots is really the most important thing. Now, however, if you do have scars, there are numbers of treatment options available to you. However, I would like to say you really need to talk to your dermatologist before you actually think of taking up any of those options.

Talk to your GP, talk to someone who really has some experience in various treatments as well. One of the options is laser. You have two different types of laser.

One is a non-invasive type of laser, the other one is more invasive type of laser. What laser actually does, it gets rid of the top layer of your epidermis. I'm just going to show you very quickly what your skin actually looks like.

That is the epidermis, what you see on top of it, that is the top layer of the skin and that is literally the protection between us and the rest of the world that protects you from all sorts of infections. Now, you would see scar tissues on top of there. Now, when using laser, what happens is the laser literally brings down part of the epidermis to a lower layer.

So it actually brings your skin down to a par of the scar so it looks visually much better, however, your skin has to regrow and that takes some time. So talk to your dermatologist, what type of laser's actually suitable for you because there are so many different types and it can become quite difficult in choosing the right one for you. The other option is a chemical peel.

Chemical peel is to do exactly the same. They just get rid of part of the top layer of your skin, the epidermis. Now, the epidermis is just one to two millimeters thick, you just have to think about that.

So, just a tiny amount is taken away by the laser or the chemical peel or the microdermabrasion which is another option. So literally, it just takes away a tiny layer of the skin and the non-invasive option is actually a silicone sheet. Silicone sheets are available from your dermatologist.

They are not very expensive. They are actually applied directly onto the scar and stay on there so that they can be quite helpful in regenerating your skin and regenerating actually the area where the scar tissue is. I personally recommend collagen and that is actually a collagen sheet and I'm going to get the collagen sheet for you.

You can see it's individually packed in such little plastic pockets. Now, what you do is actually take out the collagen sheet which looks like a piece of paper. What you do is you wet it with a little bit of water before you apply to make it actually soft.

Once it is actually nice and soft, you apply it on the skin of the person entirely. You push it into the skin so that it actually can stay there for about twenty minutes and then you remove the mask. Collagen is the main matrix of our skin.

It actually provides us with elasticity. It is a natural protein which all living beings have. So, lasers, microdermabrasion and chemical peels do work quicker but you have more significant side effects from those, you have to be more careful, with actually silicone sheets and collagen sheets, it's a non-invasive option and much gentler option but you can actually treat your scars quite successfully. .
