This video will explain to you how to treat and prevent the forming of blisters on your feet in only a few minutes.
Hello, I'm Charles Goldman, a qualified chiropodist podiatrist. I run The Foot Pad chiropody and physical therapy clinic in Holborn, Central London. Today, I'm going to talk to you about various foot problems and their treatment.
In this video, we're going to discuss blisters prevention and treatment. Blisters are caused by friction unlike corns or calluses which are caused by direct pressure. When you apply friction to the skin, it heats up and the body sends excess fluid there to cool it down.
This forms a blister under the skin. Sometimes, it can be a blood blister. Sometimes, it can just be serum under the skin.
If you get a blister, it's generally because you've worn something that is rubbing against your foot. It could be your sock, it could be your shoe, footwear. To help prevent blisters, make sure your shoes are well fitted and your socks are tight and are not slipping about on your foot.
If you have sweaty feet, this is another cause for the socks and shoes to slip about so make sure you keep your feet dry. The best way is to use a product either like Blisteeze or this Spenco second skin, which is mostly gel. You apply it to the blister and then cover it with tape to hold it in place and that will help soothe it and stop the discomfort.
Once that is done, the blister will gradually dry up and the dead skin will gradually slow off. You should not pick at it because this can introduce infection under the skin and leave it to feel naturally. You can keep applying these products as long as you don't get an adverse reaction like a rash.
That is the way we recommend you treat blisters. .
