Wash It Down

To begin fighting heartburn, start with a tall glass of cool water to wash the acid back down your throat and soothe the burning.
Herbal teas can provide relief and healing. Ginger is also great for digestion. Grate some ginger root and steep in boiling water for at least 10 minutes.

Drink Milk

The calcium in a glass of milk will counteract some of the acid, and the fats help coat your throat to protect from the burns. Be sure to use whole or 2% milk.

Eat Cool Veggies

Sliced radishes and cucumbers have a very cool, soothing taste and are sometimes served to counteract spicy foods. Juices from vegetables like carrots can also be helpful as long as they are high in alkalines.

If you find your heartburn strikes when you lay down, or bend over, try to stay upright as much as possible.

If your heartburn occurs often and keeps you from sleeping at night, see your doctor. This could be a sign of acid reflux disease and it needs to be treated. If your skin turns pale, or blue, and clammy while suffering heartburn, these can be signs of a heart attack. Get emergency help.
