Hello, I'm Charles Goldman, a qualified chiropodist podiatrist. I run The Foot Pad chiropody and physical therapy in Holborn, Central London. Today, I'm going to talk to you about various foot problems and their treatment.

In this video, we are going to discuss treatment of metatarsalgia. Metatarsalgia generally means pain in the metatarsal region of the foot. The metatarsals are the five bones that attach the toes to the ankle bones in the foot.

These are the longest bones in the foot and is the one that's most commonly involved in the football injury called fractured metatarsal. This is normally the fourth or fifth metatarsal, which are the thinner ones. The main one very rarely breaks as it's a very strong bone.

It can be caused by a number of things, it can be caused by stress fractures. It can be caused by sprains, strains, and euromas, corns, calluses, anything that can cause pain in the foot. The first thing to ascertain is what is causing it, so you do need to seek medical advice.

In the mid-entry, you can take pain killers such as ibuprofen, anti-inflammatories which will help reduce the discomfort. Once you've ascertained what the cause is, that cause can be treated rather than just treat the symptom of pain. The treatments for breaks are obviously different than treatment to sprains and strains which is why it is apparent that you seek medical help for any pain in the foot, particularly if it's ongoing more than a few days.

This is the way I recommend you deal with metatarsalgia. .
