Today, I am going to speak to you about how to treat tinea versicolor. Tinea versicolor is a common type of fungal infection affecting feet, particularly in hot climate. It is often associated with the hot climate due to increased sweating allowing the fungus to thrive while wearing shoes.
The patients often complain of itching and irritation of the skin, particularly between the toes and the arch itself. Clinically, there is appearance of flakes that are red and irritable looking. Once diagnosed by a skin or foot specialist, treatment options include over-the-counter sprays and creams and powders.
It is important to reduce the moisture in between the toes. Most specialists will recommend use of an anti-fungal spray between the toes, use of anti-fungal powder in the shoes and cream for the rest of the foot. It may be many months before successful treatment of tinea versicolor is achieved as it is not uncommon for patients to have recurring episodes of the problem.
