How To Trim A Door With Casing
Watch and get some great contractor tips for installing door trim. Perfect fitting angle miters don't have to be that difficult to accomplish.
Step 1: Measure the Top Jamb
Using a tape measure, measure the distance between the top jamb and add 1/2". This will be the inside dimension of the miter cut. Install the top or head piece of trim first.
Step 2: Cut the Side Pieces
Measure from the floor to the top of the head piece already installed. This will be the distance to the long part of the 45 angle miter. Fit the side pieces and adjust the angles slightly if needed.
Step 3: Glue the Miter Cuts
Once the pieces fit snuggly, apply a small amount of glue to the cut. Press the side trim into the top trim.
Step 4: Nail the Trim
Using a trim gun or finish nails, fasten the trim to the jambs and the wall every 12-16".
