How To Turn Off Your Water Supply

To turn off your water supply you need to locate the stop tap. It is usually under the kitchen sink. Follow the cold water pipe along and you will find it. Turn it off like a normal tap. To turn off your water supply you need to locate the stop tap. It is usually under the kitchen sink. Follow the cold water pipe along and you will find it. Turn it off like a normal tap.

Step 1: Locating the stop tap

What we need to do is find the stop tap. They're usually
in the kitchen under the sink. But they can be anywhere
on the ground floor of your property. But don't worry if you can't find it. One way of finding the stop tap is by locating the cold water feed under the sink. Once you've found the pipe, follow it along and hopefully you'll find the stop tap.

Step 2: Turn off

Once you've found the stop valve, turn it to the left like any
normal tap and that will isolate your water supply.
Your water supply is now off.

hello say if i cant find a hot and cold water isolation valve adjacent to the kitchen taps! if i turn off the Cold Water Main to the property and drain off all the water to the kitchen taps! that will drain off the Cold Water to the Boiler and Possible Cause an airlock! can this be avoided? is there such a Valve that i can clamp around the pipe and turn off the water?

All bad advice. If you turn a tap clockwise then it will go both left and right, as you look from above it will go right at the top and left at the bottom. You turn it anticlockwise to open and allow water through, and clockwise to close the tap and stop the water. The same as if you were going to open or close a bottle with a cap.

Please, no one turn your taps or valves to the left! That's really, really bad advice - you're likely to break the tap or valve if you turn it too far to the left and then you're in trouble. TURN IT TO THE RIGHT. Righty Tighty - Lefty Loosy. Kurt, silly boy.

Sorry, but turning any valve or normal tap "to the left" only opens it!
