How To Turn On Roller Skates

Hi, I'm Stuart Thomas and I'm going to show you some tips and tricks on roller skates and blades. In this video, I'm going to show you how to turn on roller skates. There's two techniques.

One, you just lean in into your skates and let your skates turn. The other one is crossing your feet over and actually changing the direction of your body. The first technique I'm going to show you is leaning the roller skates.

With the right setup and your trucks are loose, you'll find that you've got to lean onto your skates and you're going to turn corners a lot easier. It's that simple. By literally leaning into your skates and letting your skates do the work.

Basically, you want to push on the outside of your foot, this side here and this side here, and you'll find your skates will naturally turn in one direction of what you want to skate in. The next technique I'm going to show you is how to cross your feet. What you'll do is you'll find this will turn a lot quicker than your skating.

So, basic turning is while you're skating along, you want to slightly lean and cross your foot over. You'll find that this will change the direction of where you're going a lot quicker than just leaning. So, if you're doing it on a round circle, you're skating in a straight line and you're going to cross and then, keep crossing again.

This will naturally make you turn on roller skates. If you want to go the opposite way, same again. Turn, lean, cross your foot over.

You want to get to the point of where you can't go any further without your body needing to take that next step. Really lean into the foot that you're going in a straight direction and your other foot will naturally just cross over behind you. You just transfer the weight between the two legs as you're doing so.
