When you decide you want to adopt a cat, think it through carefully and make sure you have the right environment and that you have plenty of time to spend with them. More tips in this video.
Here are just a few points to remember if you're thinking of adopting a cat. Obviously, there's two ways of adoptions - one, from a rescue center like the Cat's Protection League, another way is from a breeder. If you go to a breeder, always make sure that you get to see both parents so you can check their socialized and the temperament checked, as well.
Also, just a few questions you need to talk to yourself about before going out to get a cat. Have you got the right indoor and outdoor facilities? Is it safe? Have I got time? A lot of people buy cats and then go out to work all day. Cats still need cuddles, mental stimulation, and play.
Is anyone in your household allergic to cats? Often, people buy cats and then find out their allergic to the cat hairs. So, think those things through first. Also, think of the cost of a cat.
You have to go out and buy the litter tray, the scratching post, all of the sort of things that go with it and any sort of inoculations so, cats aren't cheap. Again, would you install a cat flap so perhaps the cost of that. Be prepared initially when you bring a cat or a kitten into the environment.
They might house soil so provide plenty of litter trays around the house. Provide plenty of scratching posts because cats tend to scratch and chew. Always, always take time out to settle the cat in.
Take a few days off work just to make sure the cat's settled in properly before you go off and leave them. These are just a few tips to remember when going out to adopt a cat. Always remember when you do go out and get a cat, whether it's a new kitten, a special breed of cat, or even a rescue cat, always bear in mind that cats can be time consuming.
They need lots of attention so don't just go out and buy on impulse. Make sure you've picked the right cat for the right environment. .
