How To Understand Skin
To know about your skin, you should go to a dermatologist who will explain the reasons why we have so many problems with our skin every now and then. This video gives you an introduction to the mechanism of our skin.
Now, in order to understand the skin, that is quite important especially if you are to prevent acne, just understand the mechanism of the skin. The skin is the biggest organ in our body. It's a living organ.
It regenerates itself every 35 days. And what that means, is that we have a new skin cell which is called keratinocyte. It actually starts from the bottom layer of your skin; it's called the sub-dermis and travels through the skin through your dermis up to your epidermis in about 35 days.
That is sort of a regeneration cycle of your skin. So, your skin is actually a healthy and living organ and acne occurs when something goes wrong. And acne, the most underlying condition for acne is an excess sebum production and that very often is caused by an excess androgen production meaning testosterone in most cases.
Now, both us, women and men, we have testosterone. It's actually a hormone which is produced in the adrenal glands and in women, it is produced in ovaries and men produce it in testes. Now if you over-produce it, testosterone actually gives rise to excess fat tissue in your body so that can cause acne.
Now, if you have suspicions that you may actually break out or have more break outs in terms of acne, it would be a good idea to go, for example, for a hormone test and actually have a look what's happening to your hormones because if there is a slight imbalance, that can be easily corrected. .
