Hi, there. I'm Abi Cleeve from Ultrasun. I've been in the sun care industry for thirteen years, really helping people to make the right decisions on their sun care choices.

Today, I'm going to try and do the same for you. We all want to protect our children, but it can be really hard to understand getting the right sun protection for your child. When shopping around for sun protection for children, always look for formulas with high SPF and UVB protection, and high UVA protection.

This is essential to protect their vulnerable skin, especially if they're under ten years old. It's believed that sunburn at that age can double their risk of skin cancer later in life, so it's absolutely essential to protect. And the rule is, if you're in doubt, go higher.

Always protect them as much as you can. Now with children, running around, enjoying the sunshine, the one thing they hate is being called back to have sun cream reapplied. When selecting sun protection for your child, look for something that is water resistant or waterproof.

That way, you can feel secure that they can enjoy the sunshine, enjoy popping in and out of the water, without you having to reapply it every ten minutes. It's so important that children get the message about sun protection. That they don't feel it's a chore, they feel it's something they want to do and they understand why they're doing it.

If you can start to introduce sun protection to your children from the moment they're aware of themselves, they will grow up knowing that this is an essential part of life, and hopefully take that pattern on to adulthood, and protect their own children in turn. When applying sun protection on your children, try and do that indoors, before you go out on the beach. Often there's so much temptation there, the last thing they want to do is stand still while you carefully apply their sun screen.

Make sure that they're well-protected all over. That first coating is probably the best one they're going to get. And don't forget to apply sun screen onto your children before school every day in the spring and summer terms.

It's surprising how quickly the sun can come out at lunch time, and if they're in the playground for an hour, that is the hottest part of the day. So, when protecting your children from the sun, make sure you choose a really high SPF, with a good high UVA protection as well. Make sure you apply it liberally, preferably indoors before you even go out.

Remember to find something that's water resistant or waterproof, so they can enjoy the day, and do remember to apply before they go to school. Just because we're in England, the sun can be very strong here as well. .
