How To Unhook A Fish
This video instructs you safer ways of unhooking the hook without damaging the fish. It describes two methods using disgorger and using some forceps.
So, in this show video I am going to show you how to unhook a fish. And some fish will swallow the hook. And in order to return them correctly, we need to triangle the hook without doing any damage to the fish and sometimes in the case of this fish.
This is a round track which, of course, I am going to put it back as carefully as possible. I am going to use a disgorger. A disgorger is a piece of plastic with a little slot in the end.
More I have to do is slide the line down the little slot so that it rests against the hook, and then I am going to use the little red end of this disgorger to actually take the hook out of the fish. First of all, I am going to engage the line through the disgorger and I am going to push the line down towards the hook and there you can see the disgorger is now resting against the hook, so that the little push, I am going to push the hook out of the fish's mouth. And then I am going to return the fish back to the water.
We, fly fishermen, wouldn't use a disgorger like a coast fishermen. It doesn't really fit around trap flies in fatigue manner. We would actually use pair forceps rather than a disgorger and it has the same effect so we would move carefully as possible as we would put forceps around the hook.
Like here, I have got a Sue hook here. Imagine this is in the fish's mouth. So, I would put the forceps around the flaw in the fish's mouth and then unhook the fish as quickly and carefully as possible.
So we would use Sue pair forceps for unhooking fish when we are fly fishing. .
