How To Unprotect Excel Sheet

This video shows you how to unprotect a worksheet in Microsoft Excel. The demonstration is given by an IT trainer from London.

Hi, my name is Ghamza Jacobs, I'm an IT trainer with New Horizons in London. I'm here today just to show you a couple of cool little tips and tricks on Windows 7 and Office 2010. How to unprotect a worksheet in Microsoft Excel? Some of you may be working with protected worksheets, this basically means that, as you can see on this file, I am trying to type, I cannot.

It basically means that all the contents of that particular sheet, being the B and B product sales sheet, has been protected and cannot be manipulated or modified. Have a look, my home tab, all of these options are greyed out. I cannot choose any of them.

I can't make any changes any way. This is because this sheet is protecteted. So to unprotect the sheet, pretty straightforward, all you need to do is go to review at the top, and this gives you the unprotect sheet option.

Now, when a sheet gets protected, it would most likely have been protected with a password. Now the password is optional, you do not have to enter the password, so you might find that you can click unprotect and it immediately just removes the protection. In this case, I've added a password in.

So when I click unprotect, so remember we go to review, unprotect. I get prompted for the password. I have to enter the password, it then gets unprotected.

So quite important. So, just to show you, if I hit protect, and I do not enter a password here, now you see once again everything is protected, can't change anything. When I go to review, I go unprotect, it does not ask me for anything, but now, you notice under home, I can do anything I like here, I can change these numbers now.

I can change that. I can change that to total sales perhaps. My sheet is unprotected.

That was how to unprotect a worksheet in Micrsoft Excel.
