Today, we're going to show you how to use a G clamp. There are various different sizes of G clamps and today, we're going to show you how to use this particular G clamp which is a medium size G clamp and a larger type G clamp which we use on larger types of application. The G clamp is called a G clamp because it's a G shape.
It has a thread, a handle, and a flat piece here which will keep the two types of material that we need to join together. If we turn it in a clockwise position, that tightens the G clamp up. To un-tighten, we turn it anticlockwise like so.
I'm going to bolt this piece of wood to this workbench using a larger G clamp and to do that, I place the piece of wood on the workbench, go around. I have to set the correct distance between here and here so it will fit over the workbench and the piece of wood. To do that, I need to unscrew it by turning in an anticlockwise position.
I place the G clamp underneath the workbench and over the top of the piece of wood and turn clockwise. As you can see, it's fairly tightened. Get a good lever on that.
That really tightens that piece of wood to the workbench and that's not going anywhere. These are great things, these G clamps, because they are very strong and they do give extremely good grip, far more grip than the quick release clamps that we get on the market today because we're using a thread, and because we're using a thread, we can get more torque on the grip so they're an extremely good clamp to use while clamping two pieces together. This is a smaller G clamp.
I'm going to clamp this piece of wood to this workbench. Unscrew the G clamp to the desired length and clockwise to tighten the piece of wood to the workbench. Now, the beauty of these clamps is the thread allows us to get a lot more torque and a lot more grip than the conventional quick release clamps that you get on the market today.
To unscrew anticlockwise, this is what we call a wing nut Take the clamp off, place it down, wood's now released from the worktop, and that is how to use G clamps. I hope you found today helpful on the different techniques and methods of using certain tools for certain DIY projects. .
