The combination pliers are among the most versatile tools you have in your toolbox! This VideoJug film walks you through a couple of simple and common tasks you can accomplish with them.
Today, we're using combination pliers. I've got two types here. We've got long nose pliers, which is very useful for getting into very tight spots if you need to get something or bend something around, like a wire that needs twisting.
This one also cuts, there's the cutter here, and that's the grip. And this one has a cutter down here, kind of a grip for nuts over here, and a general grip on the top. So you can use cutters like this for cutting wire.
You just put the wire through, then cut, same thing with this one. Then, if I need to cut the screw, this is a screw for a handle. I clamp it into place.
Very important, use some goggles because when I cut this, this is going to go flying. Around here, I cut it, and we have the correct length that you need. If you want to bend a piece of metal for example, this can be used to go around a pipe, I could hold it with one of these, and use the other one to do the bending, its finesse, so it's good for doing intricate bending.
I'll twist around one way, I'll move this up, and around, and lift again, like this. Now that I've bent my wire, I can use it to secure a piece of pipe for example. Right down here, just goes around that and you can screw them both sides, and the pipe stays in place.
So that's one use for the long combination pliers. Another use for the combination pliers is if you've screwed a screw partly in and you've broken the thread because you've gone too hard at it, you could just take it out by gripping it like this, unscrewing it counter-clockwise, and out it comes. And that's how to use combination pliers. .
