How To Use Hose Clamps
Richard from Jennings-Bramley Furniture reveals the deep mysteries of hose clamps - the different types, how to tighten them, and what they are often used for.
Right, these are hose clamps, otherwise known as jubilee clips. There are two different types, really; one can be tightened by hand like this, and another type that you use a screwdriver and a slot in the end, or if it gets quite tight and you can't get a screwdriver in there, use a spanner. This is the right size spanner for this.
You generally find the right size, first of all, the right rough size, and then you tighten that fit. In real workshops, you use lots of them for extraction and we've got one here, for instance. This is the extractor we use in the spindle moulder, and you see the hoses attached to the box with the hose clamps; and up here as well in the funnel, there are lots of hose clamps everywhere.
There are two different types. There's the finger knob and the other one that has a hexagonal outside that spanners will fit. If you can't turn the spanner all the way around or get in there with a spanner, sometimes it's easier with a screwdriver.
They come in different sizes. You get the right size for the pipe you're doing so 100mm, 120mm, and so on, and adjust it down to fit and tighten. In extraction and workshops, you use a lot of them.
The things like the light here, there's an end-to end joining attaching it to the extraction. There's a smaller one here attached to the crown guard. I'll show you how to fit one on.
This is a disk sander, and I've got one of these this type on the end of the hose. You just put it over the end of the hose you want to go on to and tighten it down, and there you go. And that's how to use hose clamps. .
