How To Use Opaque Glass Paint
Glass paints are not only translucent. This video introduces you to opaque glass paints.
Hello, my name's Kevin Shenton. I'm the UK manager of Marabu Creative. We've managed to put together a range of videos showing all aspects of fabric, textile painting along with glass painting and porcelain painting.
Generally now, we're going to lead on to opaque glass. Sometimes, people want to put privacy between one area or another and a nice way of doing that is with a Marabu opaque glass paint. You still have elements of translucence.
I'm showing a Santa here using the Marabu Fun and Fancy. Now, this range is a water-based product of a range of colours, 30 plus colours, available in two sizes, a 25 ml tube for around 2 pounds and an 80 ml tube for around 4 pounds. Now, how we've worked with that, we've used here for demonstration, we've used an outline for the Santa which we got from a rote free design from the Marabu website and also within one of the Marabu books, and what we've then done is colored in the area using the individual paint.
These are all water-based so again you can make a mistake and nothing gets too difficult to rectify. When the product is finished, you can either do this in freehand, with the design or without the design. When you've actually produced it and we produced that one on a clear plastic film, allow it to dry overnight and then we peel off the image and it gives a far more opaque - if I show you one piece of glass I have here - a standard glass paint and then what I'm going to do is adhere this down as an opaque.
This is Santa on there. You'll see that light struggles to pass through it. There it is from the rear.
Light struggles to pass through it. It's opaque, gives a permanent if you prefer so they're ideal for internal applications, but on the inside of the glass, it gives privacy between one area or another which is where generally is the opaque effect to them. But also, it gives a really decorative effect.
You know, a good idea for this are perhaps your doors. You know, people sometimes walk into and back your door, put an opaque in it like this on. They clearly see this glass there and that's on the glass and gives an opaque effect.
It's an opaque glass painting using Marabu Fun and Fancy. And on here, we've used Marabu Outline Paste which is the outlined lead effect. And here, we decorated a wine bottle, champagne bottle, and gives a Marabu Outline Paste.
That is opaque glass painting using Marabu Fun and Fancy paints. .
