Hi. I'm Zoe Lem, stylist and owner of My Sugarland. I'm going to give you some insider's tips on how to do fashion.
I'm now going to show you how to wear a blouse dress. So, blouse dresses are really just an oversized top, so often quite short, and it's either with buttons or just very simple details. So, this is a simple blouse shape so it's really been about working up the colors that work for you, the detail, depending on age and lifestyle for how short you go for.
The blouse shape generally is quite wide, because it's just an oversized shape, so you might just want to go from nipping it in. It's really about going for flattering. This is a lightweight fabric.
It's a silk so if you go for anything too heavy, it's going to add quite a lot of bulk, and actually you've already got the bulk with the width of the top. So, you want to belt it in and add the shape. You could actually then wear this over trousers or leggings.
So, you've nipped it in, tying in the colors, so pick out on the colors within the dress, so you've got all the different tones here. Then for accessories, we're going to pick out one of the other tones. We're going to go for the nude tone for shoes, so this lovely color then here.
A neutral shoe is really flattering, lengthening the leg, and especially a heel, it really adds that extension and can really lengthen and flatter the ankles. But equally, a flat pump, and especially as paint in shine, can be really cute, and even just over a pair of tights. And then we're going to pull out one of the other tones for the bag and we're going to go for the pink.
So, again, we've got the 3 different colors in there that we're working from the pattern. If you don't know what color to put with something, if it's a pattern, pull out these tones rather than just always putting it with black and white. Pull out one of the tones within the pattern and then we're going to pull out, finally, the black, and we're going to do a little headpiece.
There's a lot of detail here, so I wouldn't do a necklace with it. I would just go simple and do a headpiece. So, you could just do a little headband or go with a little headpiece.
Generally, if you're going for a shorter blouse, it's a young look. If you want to make it work for you if you're 40's, 50's, you can, but go for something with longer shape, maybe a slightly more muted color and make sure that you definitely nip it in at the waist, and then it can work for you. And this is how to wear a blouse dress. .
